Small by design. Powerful by experience.
The Peak School is a progressive, mastery-based school in Summit County, Colorado, where students learn through rigorous academics, real-world application, and outdoor experiences, and are expected to demonstrate what they can do at every step.
The Peak School serves middle school and high school students in grades 6 – 12.
The Peak Difference
Mastery-Based Learning
Not just grades and test scores, but demonstrated skills. Students advance when they’ve shown mastery, not just completed time.
Real-World Application
Senior projects + experiential learning
Students work on real problems, not simulations.
Student Voice & Confidence
At Peak, your introverted student will gain the confidence to speak up. Every student delivers a minimum of 6 prepared speeches to the school community before graduation.
Outdoor + Classroom Learning
Outdoor education is not “extra.”
It is an integrated system of learning.
What a Peak Student Looks Like
Peak students are not defined by a single path, interest, or achievement. They are defined by what they are able to do — and how they learn to do it.
Because learning here is not passive. It is practiced, applied, and demonstrated over time.
Across grades and disciplines, Peak students are:
Athletes competing at the state and national level
Students earning professional certifications and real-world experience
Scientists, writers, builders, and designers working on original projects
Outdoor leaders developing resilience, judgment, and confidence in dynamic environments
Global learners engaging with cultures, systems, and ideas beyond Summit County
Communicators who can speak clearly, defend ideas, and present their work with confidence
What connects them is not a single profile.
It is a shared expectation: to actively demonstrate what they know, not just complete what they are assigned.
By the time they graduate, Peak students leave with more than transcripts and test scores.
They leave with evidence of capability, built through experience.

Fun Fact: We had a student (class of 2017) take 23 AP tests over their time at Peak. They ended up receiving 17 5’s, which is the highest score one can receive, five 4’s, and one 3. All passing grades. While this is not the norm, it does show what a Peak student can achieve within our curriculum.
