    Responsibilities

    The general responsibilities of a full-time, upper school math teacher (9th-12th grades) at The Peak School include:

    • Teaches up to four courses of math to upper school students (geometry, algebra II, pre-calculus and calculus)

    • Willingness to run an advisory

    • Willingness to conduct an elective (can be outside of the department) for a portion of the year.

    • Prepares course materials such as syllabi, quizzes, tests, writing assignments, rubrics, etc.

    • Uses The Peak’s learning management system (Jump Rope/Google Classroom) to post relevant course materials, including syllabi, and to maintain class gradebooks, and attendance.

    • Provides guidance to students, including extra help, that promotes their educational development and personal growth.

    • Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis and provides written reports as required.

    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

    • Uses different pedagogical approaches that address a variety of learning styles.

    • Works collaboratively with other teachers 

    • Communicates with clarity, effectiveness, and compassion.

    • Uses The Peak’s learning management system (Jump Rope/Google classroom) to post relevant course materials, including syllabi, and to maintain class gradebooks, and attendance

    • Provides guidance to students, including extra help, that promotes their educational development and personal growth

    • Willingness to conduct an elective (can be outside of department) for a portion of the year. Being able to teach an art elective is a bonus. 

    • Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis and provides written reports as required

    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

    • Uses different pedagogical approaches that address a variety of learning styles

    • Works collaboratively with other teachers 

    • Communicates with clarity, effectiveness, and compassion

    • Teaches up to four courses of science to upper school students (biology/chemistry alternating years), physics, earth science 

    • Willingness to run an advisory

    • Willingness to conduct an elective (can be outside of the department) for a portion of the year

    • Prepares course materials such as syllabi, quizzes, tests, writing assignments, rubrics, etc.

    • Uses The Peak’s learning management system (Jump Rope/Google Classroom) to post relevant course materials, including syllabi, and to maintain class gradebooks, and attendance.

    • Provides guidance to students, including extra help, that promotes their educational development and personal growth.

    • Collaborate with a middle school STEM teacher to run our bi-annual STEM Fair for the school.

    • Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis and provides written reports as required.

Our teachers are experts in their fields, and are empowered to create differentiated and innovative lessons across the curriculum.  The coordinator is charged with providing dynamic leadership for the outdoor programming and activities at The Peak School. The director is responsible for helping to plan and provide challenging experiences and collaborative opportunities that will contribute to the development of discipline, leadership ability, self confidence, and community building for the Peak community. 

    Overview: 

    Plan and lead four focused Outdoor Education Trips & Two Mountain days:

    • Orientation Trips - organizing, preparing for, coordinating, and leading in August (all students)

    • Hut Trips - organizing, coordinating, and leading in March/April (Div I, II, III)

    • Senior Spring Trip - coaching the senior class to organize and develop their own outdoor education trip in May

    • Mountain Days - organizing both Fall and Winter Mountain Days

    Responsibilities:

    • Schedule trips, facilitate logistics, lead trips, and continually evolve The Peak School Outdoor Education program

    • Serve as primary risk manager 

    • Keep medical kits/ logs updated and filled

    • Manage and book permits, facilities, and campsites. Responsible for making reservations with vendors in a timely manner (huts do need to be booked appropriately one year in advance).

    • Coordinate transportation and vehicle needs for all OE trips

    • Oversee inventory, maintenance, and purchasing of outdoor gear

    • Organize food needs and purchasing before each trip

    • Oversee Mountain Days

    • Responsible for working with faculty to understand their responsibilities and best practices

    • Have continued and effective communication with all Peak Families

    • Work in collaboration with the Business Office on Budget

      • Help to manage additional stipend funds

    • Run POELs (Peak Outdoor Education Leaders) program

    Qualifications:

    • B.A. or B.S. in a related field, or prior work experience in Outdoor Education

    • Experience in and enthusiasm for working with and teaching students in experiential education, wilderness, or residential settings

    • Well-developed planning, written, and organizational skills

    • A clean driving record

    • The ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other school community members

    • Experience working with middle school and/or high school students

    • Creative and fun

    • Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT is a plus

    • Previous experience with risk management, staff supervision, and wilderness programs is a plus
